This
deck took us a lot of time plus and a lot of design thought
not to mention a lot of pre-planning etc.
The ground sloped from the front entry door as seen to
the left. The grade sloped down to the...... the sloping
driveway entryway.
Plus,
to make matters more complex.
The
owner Tom, did not want the new deck attached to the front
existing old brick work. So, for us that meant that we
( Debbie ) had to dig footers right next to the front
wall down towards the basement. Not an easy task. She
prefers to dig all her footers by hand. Well that's Deb
for ya.
Its
an all cedar custom deck as you can see.
The
cedar steps spiral from the center of the right cedar
post. All custom sub-framing was built using #1 grade
pressure treated lumber ( see during photos ). Note: wood
blocking in those during pictures.
Tom
loved the his cedar deck so much that he had us re-side
( see above ) just that front portion of the house, in
cedar planks as well.
This
job was not done overnight. It took a while to complete
a few months at that. But it was worth it as Tom put it.
By the way. We were hired on a part time basis only due
to other existing remodeling on going job commitments.
However Tom did know that up front from day one. He got
our standard time sharing discount.
When we say custom we mean it ! And he simply loved it
! Later on, a 12 volt lighting was added as well as a
customized curved thin / graspable hand rail as requested
by New Castle County building department for this deck.

Yes,
during that job we did turn some heads. Some of the guys
used to start parking there trucks across the street around
4:00 just to see how it is that two women do what we do
: )
